We didn’t have specific goals when we arrived. We just wanted to start learning the wines, meeting people and getting to know the regions. But we quickly started learning what wine should taste like at certain price points.
Luis and Ana entered the world of wine 15 years ago when Luis’s parents, Tony and Gabby, bought a beautiful property in the heart of the Douro Superior in Portugal. The property was filled with abandoned vineyards and recovering them became the family’s passion.
It isn’t hard to fall in love with Portugal. Though geographically a small country, it has an immense amount to offer. While places like France, Spain, and Italy get a lot of attention, Portugal is often overlooked. We believe this is changing.
We’ve discovered that Portugal has all kinds of good things to offer. Besides wine they have great cheese, olive oil, olives and fruit. The best part…. it’s all much less expensive than it would be coming from places like Spain and France!
Portugal is the first country on our nine month European wine tour, searching for unique high-value wines. Finding the wineries we have appointments with has actually been pretty difficult, but we’re starting to get the hang of it. In fact, not one has been as easy as inputting an address into our GPS and arriving without effort.
